Dr Keith W Weeks
PhD, RN, LPE, BSc (Hons), BEd, DipN, SFHEA
Founder, CEO & Healthcare Mathematics Education Director
Keith is Co-founder, CEO and Healthcare Mathematics Education Director of Numeric Generics Ltd. He is a science and education graduate and has a PhD in healthcare mathematics education. Keith is a RN with over 45 years of clinical, education and research experience, and is a specialist in advanced clinical practice physiology, pathophysiology and healthcare mathematics education. His groundbreaking Decoding the DNA of Healthcare Numeracy translational research programme underpins the design of the safeHANDS authentic virtual clinical education environment.
Based on over 30 years of international clinical and education translational research, his vision and Numeric Generics leadership mission, is to advance patient safety, healthcare professional standards and competence via innovative education practice.
Building on previous seminal work in the field and in collaboration with Mathematics Director Alex Weeks, he decoded, transcribed, classified and translated the core healthcare numeracy knowledge and skills that often lies deeply embedded and hidden in the nucleus of professional nursing and wider healthcare practice. This applied mathematics knowledge and associated skills underpins and informs nursing science. Critically it is used in various combinations and sequences to inform the safe practice of a wide range of clinical nursing and clinical healthcare processes and procedures. Central to formalising the definition, curricula and assessment requirements, and application of the applied mathematics in practice, Keith and Alex articulated these relationships within a healthcare numeracy taxonomy, as the basis for a nursing numeracy benchmark.
As Healthcare Mathematics Education Director, Keith translated the healthcare numeracy taxonomy into a constructivist education model, that articulates the authentic learning, assessment and clinical application processes that are a hallmark of the safeHANDS virtual clinical education suite.
In his wider CEO role, Keith leads and collaborates with a team of specialist Numeric Generics directors. The Numeric Generics team are dedicated to advancing the Company mission, international patient safety, and professional healthcare and competence standards, across the global community of practice.
